William P. Brown

Bill Brown, B.S. 1954, Civil Engineering, distinguished himself in the Engineering field by playing a vital role in the aerospace industry, primarily with the development of the Apache attack helicopter for the U.S. and allied military services.

Brown spent the first 25 years of his career with Boeing working in the military aircraft division where he specialized in the design, development and testing of aircraft and spacecraft. He eventually became the helicopter division's director of military projects for the Army and Navy.

In 1980 he joined Hughes Helicopters where he was responsible for the development of the AH-64 Apache. When McDonnell Douglas Corporation acquired Hughes Helicopters in 1984, Brown was named Vice President – Engineering. The following year he was appointed President and remained in that position until his retirement in 1990.

Subsequent to his retirement he served for seven years as an advisor to the Secretary of the Army as a member for the Army Science Board.
